Very Graphic: Big Woman Bathed with Acid after visiting Native Doctor in Edo

Image
Marbel Mark, 31, from Edo State but married to a man from Delta State, has petitioned Edo Police Command, urging investigation into the acid bath she suffered in the hands of some persons now at large. The incident happened in October 2015, when the victim, based in Spain, with her seven year-old daughter, visited Nigeria. Trouble started when she was said to have visited a native doctor at Sakpoba Road, Benin shortly after her arrival in Nigeria. Though the relationship between the woman and the native doctor could not be ascertain, it was said that the wife of the latter became jealous of the alleged ‘close relationship’ between the Marbel and her husband and decided to fight Marbel. She accused her of having an affair with her husband but Marbel refuted the allegation vehemently, insisting that the relationship between her and the husband was purely business. But of course the wife did not believe her story and continued to protest. The wife feared Marbel may  use her connection

The Quantity of Tomotoes wasted in spain during La Tomatina festival will make an average Nigerians weep

Image
La Tomatina started on the last Wednesday of August in 1945 (29th August 1945) when some young people went to the town square to attend the Giants and Big-Head figures parade. They decided to join the parade with a musician. The group's excitement caused a person to fall from the float. The participant flew into a fit of rage and started to hit everything in his path. There was a market stall of vegetables that fell victim to what soon became a furious crowd. People started to pelt each other with tomatoes until local law enforcement ended the battle. The following year the young people deliberately repeated the fight on the last Wednesday of August, only this time they brought their own tomatoes from home. They were again dispersed by the police. The food fight became an annual event.  The festival gained popularity with more and more participants every year. In subsequent years it was banned again with threats of serious penalties.  In the year 1957, some young people celeb

EFCC declares former Osun state deputy governor, Iyiola Omisore wanted over N700m he allegedly received from ex NSA

Image
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), today, May 24, declared former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, wanted. The former senator is wanted in connection with a case of receiving and misappropriating the sum of over N700m from the Office of the National Security Adviser, between June and November, 2014. According to EFCC, Omisore has been elusive and refused to report to the Commission after invitation was extended to him on April 7, 2016 requesting him “to come and make clarification on the ongoing investigation”.  Instead of responding to the Commission’s investigation Omosore had approached the Federal Capital Territory High Court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf consequently ordered that Omisore should only be arrested through a due and legal process. The EFCC thereafter obtained a warrant to effect the arrest of the politician.

Exchange rate and devaluation

Henry Boyo Industry, commerce, as well as employment opportunities, unexpectedly, flourished for the greater part of Gen. Sani Abacha’s four-year reign, despite Nigeria’s pariah status and the stupendous treasury rape by the dictator. The question, therefore, is how Abacha’s economic team sustained the erstwhile elusive enabling environment, despite the dysfunctional economy that they inherited. Fortunately, Chief Anthony Ani, an insider in that team, answered this question, in his keynote address, at ICAN’s induction ceremony on May 11, 2016. A summary by this columnist and excerpts from the former finance minister’s 19-page presentation follow hereafter. Please read on: “We are an import dependent nation, therefore the naira price of dollars, required to pay for imports, will inevitably significantly impact multiple sectors of our economy. Furthermore, despite the collapse of naira rate from $2=N1 to N199=$ since 1985, the IMF, several international banks an

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the prison remand of a teacher of Maromipin Nursery and Primary School, a private school in Makoko, Lagos, for allegedly raping a 10-year-old pupil. The 34-year-old teacher, Tunde Mudashir, was arraigned by the police on one count of sexual assault before the presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.F. Adeeyo on Monday.
