I can’t remember the number of phones I have stolen, pickpocket tells police

A suspected pickpocket arrested by the police has said that he has lost count of the number of people he robbed of their phones in Lagos. Dapo Simeon, 27, told officers of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command that he started as a pickpocket over three years ago before graduating into robbery. Mr. Simeon was arrested‎ along with seven others for allegedly robbing passers-by in Ojota, Ketu, and Mile 12 at night, the police said in a statement on Sunday. The suspect,‎a trained bricklayer from Oyo State, told the police that he specialised in stealing phones, jewellery and money. “I can’t remember the number of phones I have stolen and collected from passers-by in Ojota, Ketu and Mile 12,” said Mr. Simeon. “I was trained by Olasege and later Femi. Kidnapped Osun State Permanent secretary regains freedom

The three abducted officials of the Osun State  Civil Service have been released by their abductors. Mrs. 'Bimpe Ogunlumade, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance;  Mr. Tajudeen Badejoko, Director of State Audit;  and Mr. Oladapo Ajani Arogundade, driver to the Auditor-General of the state were kidnapped last week. A statement signed by Mr. Olayinka Owoeye, Osun State Head of Service, announced that they were  released on Sunday evening by their abductors  Oladapo Ajani Arogundade, have regained their freedom from their abductors.  The statement added that ‎arrangements are being made to convey them to Osogbo, the state capital, and get them re-united  with their families and relations.

The embattled Nigerian Senate President is believed to have transferred a total of $3.47 million in 40 installments in four years with his credit card to the United States, a document obtained by PREMIUM TIMES revealed. He carried out the transactions through Guaranty Trust Bank between 2009 when he served as Kwara State governor, and 2012 when he served as the senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District. Prosecutors say the beneficiary accounts in the U.S. were also owned by Mr. Saraki. Some of the senator’s companies, during the same period, also transferred thousands of dollars to the U.S. accounts. The companies are Carlisle Properties and West Gate Ltd. Mr. Saraki is currently facing a 13-count charge bordering on corruption and false asset declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. He allegedly committed the offence when he served as governor between 2003 and 2011. The politician has denied any wrongdoing and alleged political persecution. Of the 13-cou

Man kills his wife because she refused to give him more children

News Jagaban The Nassarawa state police command has arrested one Okala Jo­seph for shooting his wife, Helen Precious, over disagreement on the number of children he wanted them to have. According to   The Sun , Okala shot his wife in front of his mother in-law at her farm in Ninda village, Kokona Local Government Area, Nasarawa State on April 4th.   The state commissioner of police, Lawal Shehu who spoke on the incident, said Okala had accused his wife of aborting their babies after she refused to give him more children. This had caused a big problem between the couple as Okala demanded that his wife bore him more children. Things between the couple came to a sad end on April 4th after Okala, wearing a mask, stormed his mother in-law's farm and shot his 18 year old wife in front of her mother and sister. Those who have called senators representing their senatorial districts accused the lawmakers of poor performance and corruption. The constituents, who decried poor representation by their senators, alleged that the lawmakers rebuffed their requests.  SUNDAY PUNCH  also learnt that some of the senators engaged their constituents in wars of words. An online news medium, SaharaReporters, had published the telephone numbers of most of the 109 senators in the National Assembly, asking their constituents to express their feelings directly to those representing them in the legislature.
