The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have called off their strike action which they started on Monday June 20th. In a statement signed by their president, Mohammed Askira, the group said the strike which they embarked on to protest the the non-payment of 10 months salaries of some of its members, was called off due to the hardship some Nigerians have faced since they started they strike.

Chales Okah The suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombings, Charles Okah,did not escape from Kuje Prison in Abuja.. “It is not true (that he escaped),” the spokesperson for the Nigerian Prisons Service, Francis Enobore, told PREMIUM TIMES, in response to reports that Mr. Okah scaled the prison’s wall and fled on Friday night. “He is there (Kuje prison) hale and hearty. The comptroller of prisons in charge of the FCT was there less than 30 minutes ago and he saw him there. I spoke to the controller.”

The Nigeria Army has admitted that its chief, Tukur Buratai, owns assets in Dubai, United Arab Emirate. The army however described as “false and misleading” a report that Mr. Buratai, and his wives, jointly became owners of the properties following a certain “single” transaction. The army said the two Dubai properties had been officially declared when Mr. Buratai was appointed Nigeria’s top army officer.

The man, Lekan Shonde, who allegedly killed his wife, Ronke in Lagos state, on Friday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in the state. Lekan who was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder had appeared before the court on May 20 and was remanded in prison custody after the case was adjourned to June 24 for further hearing.

Early reports indicate about 9 inches of rain damaged or destroyed more than 100 homes and knocked out power to tens of thousands of others, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said. About 500 people were stranded overnight in a shopping center when a bridge washed out, and dozens of other people had to be plucked off rooftops or rescued from their cars.

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), on Friday, took over the assets of Afrijet Airlines Ltd. owned by Chief Vitalis Ibe, over an unpaid debt of almost N10 billion. This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Jude Nwauzor, Head, Corporate Communications, AMCON, which was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Lagos.

Britain and the European Union will both "remain indispensable partners for the United States", President Barack Obama says, following a vote by Britain to leave European Union. "The people of the United Kingdom have spoken, and we respect their decision", Obama says, noting the "special relationship" between the US and Britain and pointing to its role as a NATO ally.
