Ijaw youth council wants Buhari to lead Niger Delta peace process

The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) on Friday, condemned the increasing insecurity in the Niger Delta and loss of lives on the part of military and civilians. The spokesman for IYC, Eric Omare, made the condemnation in a statement released in Yenagoa on Friday. The statement said insecurity in the region was getting out of control. The group urged President Muhammadu Buhari to personally take over the Niger Delta peace process to ensure a rapid return of peace.

The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, on Tuesday, threatened to jail senators attending court sessions in solidarity with Senate President Bukola Saraki and throw them out of the tribunal. The chairman got angry over ‘rude’ comments from senators and other supporters of Mr. Saraki. The individuals, seated in the court gallery, had repeatedly asked Rotimi Jacobs, prosecution counsel, to “sit down.”

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday heard that a former Chief of Air Staff, Mohammed Umar, had commenced an out-of-court settlement negotiation in the money laundering charge against him. Mr. Umar is being tried on a seven-count charge of laundering N4.8 billion, while he was Chief of Air Staff.

Health Crisis: Buhari May Extend 10-Day London Trip

SaharaReporters has exclusively learned that President Muhammadu Buhari’s urgent 10-day trip to London to treat an ear infection may be extended because he also needs attention for “a terrible cough that has persisted longer than the ear infection.” The President began his trip on Monday.  In a statement, the presidential Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, described his principal’s ear infection as “persistent”. Last week, Mr. Buhari cancelled an official visit to Lagos State on account of the same problem, according to statements by the President’s Office at that time.  He subsequently also canceled scheduled visits to Ogoni for the launch of a major clean-up campaign, and to Senegal for an ECOWAS engagement.
