Head of Egypt's Information Service blames Tom and Jerry for the rise of ISIS. What is this world becoming?

Image
It is said that a bad workman blames his tools but how about one who blames cartoon characters? The head of Egypt's Information Service, Ambassador Salah Abdel Sadek has placed the blame for the rise of ISIS squarely at the paws of a well-known cat and mouse. Speaking at Cairo University, he said that the characters encourage extremism and teach children that you can blow people up. He opined that the cartoon as well as video games and 'violent' movies helped to spark violence and extremism across the Arab world. Speaking to the academic audience, he said that Tom and Jerry contributed to the notion that violence was a 'natural' part of life. Lab-on-a-chip to measure glucose in single drop of sweat

Lab-on-a-chip PHOTO: google.com/search Highly sensitive and rapid detection of blood glucose is a diagnostic necessity in medicine. For instance, lack of insulin and too much blood sugar are two main causes of diabetes, both of which can be detected by measuring blood glucose. Now, using fiber optics and microfluidics, researchers are developing a cheap, ultra-sensitive lab-on-a-chip device that can quickly measure glucose in just a drop of sweat. The team, from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Zhejiang University in China, is developing the device to help earlier diagnosis and prevention of diabetes. The technology behind it belongs to a new field called “optofluidics” that brings together photonic sensing (using the properties of light to detect chemicals) and microfluidics (precise control of tiny amounts of fluid along microchannels) What is unique about the new device, according to a paper in the Biomedical Optics Express, is that it uses fib
