Nigeria’s sports minister has promised to give jobs to Shuaibu Amodu’s children

Nigeria’s sports minister Solomon Dalung has promised to give jobs to Shuaibu Amodu’s children as several football personalities turned up at the Lagos residence of the late Nigeria coach for the eighth day Fidau prayers held in his honour on Saturday.

Dalung; President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick; Patrick Ikpeme, members of the sports editors’ guild, two of Amodu’s bosom friends Franklin Howard and Joe Erico, as well as Ike Shorunmu and Mutiu Adepoju were all in attendance to pay their last respects to Amodu who passed on last Saturday in Benin City, Edo State.

Dalung who eulogised the late Super Eagles coach revealed that two of the children of the late hero will be offered appointments at the National Sports Commission.

“Amodu has etched his name into the history books of Nigerian Football and he won’t be forgotten neither will the family he left behind be forgotten,” Dalung said.

“We will not pay lip service to his families. They will be well taken care of and these won’t be the promises made that won’t be fulfilled.”

Four-time Super Eagles coach Amodu died last Saturday after complaining of chest pains the previous night. He was buried that same day in his home town, Okpella in Edo State.

Pinnick in his remark admitted that the last 19 months have been taxing for him but the fallen hero will be immortalized well.

“Now is not the time to weep. We must reflect on our lives. Whatever we can do we will and we will immortalise him. We will do everything humanly and financially to support the family he left behind,” Pinnick said.
