Marbel Mark, 31, from Edo State but married to a man from Delta State, has petitioned Edo Police Command, urging investigation into the acid bath she suffered in the hands of some persons now at large. The incident happened in October 2015, when the victim, based in Spain, with her seven year-old daughter, visited Nigeria. Trouble started when she was said to have visited a native doctor at Sakpoba Road, Benin shortly after her arrival in Nigeria. Though the relationship between the woman and the native doctor could not be ascertain, it was said that the wife of the latter became jealous of the alleged ‘close relationship’ between the Marbel and her husband and decided to fight Marbel. She accused her of having an affair with her husband but Marbel refuted the allegation vehemently, insisting that the relationship between her and the husband was purely business. Lagos state launches 'First of its kind' emergency response unit

The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) Response Unit was launched yesterday by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osinbajo who ably represented the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari. Also present were His Excellency Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State Dr Idiat Adebule, the Honourable Minister of Works, Power & Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), the LASEMA General Manager Mr Michael Akindele amongst others. Eight years ago, a Command and Control Centre was launched. This Command & Control Centre hosted the 767 & 112 emergency lines and ever since then, Lagosians have been able to speak to trained agents manning the phone lines round the clock every single day of the year. Wow! ‘it’s raining money’ could be one of the expressions that comes to mind when you see the kind of money that ‘rained down’ at a traditional wedding recently . The traditional wedding which reportedly held somewhere in the bride’s village in Isioziakah, Njaba local government area of Imo State, saw the couple’s family and friends spraying money like it was a competition. The young couple were overwhelmed by the support from their friends and they danced like it was going out of fashion. The couple dressed in white matching outfits, danced to traditional music while their friends threw money into the air. The bride is identified as Instagram user @nekilicious1. PDP Crisis: Court sacks Makarfi, reinstates Ali Modu Sheriff

  A Federal High Court in Lagos has nullified the national caretaker committee constituted by the Peoples Democratic Party during last Saturday’s convention. The convention had appointed a former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, as acting chairman, while a former Senator, Ben Obi, was appointed acting national secretary. The party said the acting national officers would be in office for three months. In a ruling on Tuesday 24 May 2016 however, Justice Ibrahim Buba ordered Ali Modu Sheriff, the erstwhile chairman of the party to continue serving as the party’s chairman.

La Tomatina started on the last Wednesday of August in 1945 (29th August 1945) when some young people went to the town square to attend the Giants and Big-Head figures parade. They decided to join the parade with a musician. The group's excitement caused a person to fall from the float. The participant flew into a fit of rage and started to hit everything in his path. There was a market stall of vegetables that fell victim to what soon became a furious crowd. People started to pelt each other with tomatoes until local law enforcement ended the battle. The following year the young people deliberately repeated the fight on the last Wednesday of August, only this time they brought their own tomatoes from home. They were again dispersed by the police. The food fight became an annual event.  The festival gained popularity with more and more participants every year.
