The Excesses of some VIO officials over LASDRI License

I want to call the attention of the Lagos State Government to the exploitation going on in the name of LASDRI License as well as beg them to issue a statement as regard the activities of some VIO officials who busy themselves on Lagos highways daily impounding and heaping fines on motorist in private cars who are by no means professional drivers.

Section 23 of the Lagos State Drivers Institute Law of 2007 made it mandatory for all professional drivers operating in the state, that is, those whose means of livelihood is driving either individual, private or corporate to undergo a re-training and re-certification exercise at the institute yearly and stipulates penalty for both drivers and employers who violate provision of the Law.
I want to be educated because I am not aware that it is now compulsory for everyone who drives on Lagos roads to be certified by LASDRI. So it is surprising to get pulled over by VIO officials yesterday at Anthony Bus stop and having one of them asking me for my LASDRI license.

Some of my colleagues have had to part with various amount of money as fines for non possession of LASDRI License in the last one month.

The Government should do all within its powers to properly educate as well as caution those saddled with the duties of enforcing its laws not to exceed the boundaries of such Laws.

We know we have a lot of overzealous and fantastically corrupt government officials but Nigerians should not be taken for granted in the era of extreme hardship.
