Police foil attempt by militants to invade Lagos community

The Lagos State Police Command have foiled an attempt by some group of militants to invade and unleash terror on Fatoki community in Igando area of the state.

The attack was said to have been attempted at about 9:30pm on Friday.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmos, said members of the public alerted the police that some group of people suspected to be militants have invaded the community through the waterways, shooting sporadically.

Badmos said a team of policemen were quickly mobilised to the scene to engage them.

According to her, the superior firepower of the policemen and subsequent bullet wound made the hoodlums abandon their mission, retreat and escape through Totowu waterways.

However, during the gun battle, a member of the police team, an Inspector, was hit by bullet.

Another civilian was also shot.

The two victims are said to be receiving treatment and recuperating in the hospital, while effort is on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Badmos added in the statement that members of the public and hospitals should report to the nearest police station anyone noticed with gunshot injury.

The Command also reiterated its commitment to ensure safety of lives and property.

Residents, especially those close to waterways, were equally advised to promptly alert the police of any suspicious movement in and around their community.
