Niger State cut salaries of workers by over 50%, Government to spend N20m monthly as against the previous weekly budget of N150m

Amidst the uproar generated by the cut in the salaries of workers by over 50%, the Niger state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has announced a drastic slash in the weekly budget of the Government House.

He said the Government House would now spend N20m monthly as against the previous weekly budget of N150m.

The governor, however, did not give details of the slash but said it was in line with the prevailing economic situation of the state which has made execution of capital projects and settlement of other recurrent expenditure very difficult.

Lask week when the salaries for the month of June were paid to all categories of workers, it was with a 50% reduction, a development which generated an outcry from mostly civil servants.

Addressing stakeholders in Kontagora town, Governor Sani Bello asked for sacrifice from everyone in the state because the economic downturn that has hit the country was now biting hard in the state.
